- #56 - The aux. percussion is tacet for this exercise.
- #56 - Woodwinds - Tongue only the first note of each slur
- #56 - Try playing this warm-up on your mouthpiece
- #56 - All brass except trombones - Tongue only the first note of each slur
- #56 - Tongue the first note of each slur and "legato tongue" the remaining notes.
- #57 - Refer to score page 168 for information about the Romantic period and Johannes Brahams.
- #57 - The key signature of this exercise does not reflect the actual key of the music.
- #58 - Tell students to listen as they play Erie Canal Capers. This comes from a song that was sung by the canal boatmen of the mid-1800's. Have students describe what their work or workday might have been like, based upon what they hear.
- #59 - Refer to #37 for an introduction of the round. Have students sing this line using scale numbers or solfege syllables.
- #60 - Drums: Do all of your strokes sound the same?
